Comrades, the time has come to read one of the heavy-hitters of the Marxist canon. For this installment of our reading group we'll be discussing Lenin's Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism. In this work Lenin breaks down how once Capital has exhausted opportunities for easy exploitation at home, that it will inevitably turn elsewhere for opportunities to extract wealth and labor to feed itself. This was a timely analysis when it was written amidst the heyday of the old European colonial empires, and is still hugely relevant today as the descendant of that system, the hegemony of the United States, engages in the practices described in the essay on an even grander scale.
