Join us as we hear from community members on critical progress in home building across Rhode Island, and gear up for 2026!

Positive Change Happening Now

Rhode Island made it easier to build new homes in recent years and the changes are starting to bear fruit. Here are just a few highlights we expect to hear about at our Policy Kickoff Event:

  • ADUs (or granny flats) are helping older Rhode Islanders age in place while providing extra income to ease the cost of living.
  • Mixed-use zoning is helping revitalize historic Main Streets and urban corridors by adding housing where infrastructure already exists.
  • Lot splitting allows oversized parcels to be divided to better match neighborhood patterns, supporting housing that fits community character.

Preview of Our 2026 Legislative Platform

  • Minimum lot size reform
Create more affordable homeownership opportunities by allowing homes to be built on modestly sized lots where water and sewer are available
  • Parking reform
Cap excessive requirements that derail homebuilding (as well as small businesses) or add thousands of dollars in project costs
  • Conversion incentive
Offer a new gap-financing tool for converting vacant offices, former schools, and other underused buildings to housing
  • Technical fixes
Update prior-year legislation based on stakeholder feedback about what is and is not working to get homes built
  • We will also be supporting:
The 2026 housing bond, tenant right to counsel legislation, and extension of the historic tax credit program
