Manufactured home park residents in Augusta will be packing the City Council meeting on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. to ask for a temporary moratorium on lot fee hikes followed by a permanent rent stabilization ordinance. They need our support to raise the profile of this campaign.

Background information

When private equity corporations buy up local Maine manufactured home parks, the first thing they do is raise the lot rent. The second thing they do is stop answering the phone when a maintenance request or other management issue comes up.

We're hearing this story from hundreds of residents of manufactured home parks across Maine: corporate owners sweeping in, jacking up fees with barely any notice, and neglecting basic living conditions. Tree trimming stops. Sewage backups go ignored. Maintenance tickets disappear into a void. And the families who built their lives here are left feeling powerless.

But the truth is: we are not powerless. We’re organizing. And we need our towns to stand with us to fight back against this corporate greed.

Whether you're a resident of a different manufactured home park in the state, a union member who knows the power of organizing to make a difference, a community member who supports this initiative, or an activist for other groups, we invite you to join us in solidarity as we rally to save the last affordable housing left in the state.
