Lead exposure can have lasting effects on children, particularly during the earliest and most critical stages of brain development. But what happens after a child has been exposed?
Join us for a conversation about what a strong response to childhood lead poisoning should look like. We’ll hear from the WNY Environmental Health Center about the medical and developmental impacts of lead exposure, and from Lead 716 and Lead It Go (Beyond Boundaries) about the direct supports they provide to children and families affected by lead.
We’ll also explore an important opportunity to strengthen New York’s response: legislation that would provide automatic access to Early Intervention for children who have been lead poisoned. This approach recognizes that children should not have to wait until developmental concerns become apparent to receive support.
Together, we’ll look beyond prevention to the interventions, services, and policy changes needed to protect children and support healthy development after lead exposure.
