Help us save GLIDE's Social Justice Academy!

GLIDE was awarded funding from the Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax (SDDT) for the Social Justice Academy, a program that provides community members with the opportunity to grow as leaders and advocates. Through this program, people with lived experience of substance use, food insecurity, and homelessness have been able to sit down face-to-face with elected officials and government decision makers to educate them on real solutions to systemic issues.

The SDDT Advisory Committee, which oversees the tax, chose to fund the Social Justice Academy because the program engages historically marginalized communities in fixing chronic health inequities, which is the intended purpose of the tax revenue.

In the draft budget released this month by the mayor's office, however, SDDT funding was cut to zero. This cut will end the Social Justice Academy and similarly impactful programs across San Francisco if it is included in the final version of the budget.

Please join GLIDE and our allies in making a two-minute public comment at the SDDT Advisory Committee meeting telling the Mayor's Office and and SDDT Advisory Committee to stop the cut and keep funding for the Social Justice Academy.

Here are talking points to help you prepare your public comment.
