New to socialism? New to being queer and/or trans? Not new to any of it but want to mingle with other anti-capitalist queers? Join the NYC-DSA Queer Caucus for a Queer & Trans Socialist Mixer at Happy Fun Hideaway in Bushwick on Thursday, July 29th at 7pm. Come to hang out, talk politics, make new friends, learn about socialism, dance, drink, and be in community!
About the Queer Caucus: The NYC-DSA Queer Caucus seeks to provide a space of community building, support, and advocacy for trans and queer comrades within a largely cis and straight organization. The Queer Caucus is a core group in organizing the Queer Liberation March, which in its first year mobilized 45,000 to march for Queer Liberation and against Rainbow Capitalism. Recognizing the intersection between queer liberation, anti-racism and dismantling the police and carceral state (exemplified in the community uprising that was the Stonewall Riots) the Caucus has also incorporated abolitionist reading, letter writing to incarcerated individuals, sex worker advocacy, as well as other solidarity work. Event Accessibility: Happy Fun Hideaway is a self-described "queer tiki disco dive bar" with an outdoor yard and indoor space, open to full capacity for those who are vaccinated (proof not required). The space is wheelchair accessible and there are gender neutral bathrooms. Drink prices range from $3-10 and non-alcoholic drinks and food are available. Bike parking is available on the street. The bar is a 12 minute walk from the Flushing Ave J / M train.
