"Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island" film screening and discussion

Start: Thursday, March 28, 2024 7:00 PM

End: Thursday, March 28, 2024 9:00 PM

Radioactive: The Women of Three Mile Island is a new documentary by American filmmaker Heidi Hutner.

On March 28, 1979, a nuclear reactor in the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania malfunctioned and released radioactive gases and radioactive iodine into the environment. It is the worst accident in US commercial nuclear power plant history, but officials downplayed the event itself at the time and surrounding communities were bathed in radiation as they struggled to navigate an atmosphere of misinformation and confusion. This film examines that fatal day and its repercussions on the mental and physical health of the surrounding communities.

Montreal for a World BEYOND War and Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility are co-hosting this event.
