Raise the Wages, Lower the Rent: Tenant Worker Solidarity March
Start: Saturday, September 28, 2024•09:00 AM
End: Saturday, September 28, 2024•12:00 PM
Most Angelenos are renters, and the highest regular costs that
most workers face is their rent. City council will be making decisions
about a lot of motions that have significant impacts on tenants and
their housing, and the landlord lobby has been organized in calling for
higher rents and less regulation. As tenants and workers, we need to
build an organized base to advance demands for living wages, lower
rents, and stronger tenant protections, so that the workers are able to
live near where they work and have that we need to flourish.
Join DSA-LA, Keep LA Housed, community organizations, and labor unions to demand higher wages, stronger rent controls, and tenant protections as we build a movement for lower rents.
Last year we had 1,000 tenants and workers march in solidarity throughout Downtown Los Angeles making stops at buildings with bad housing conditions, hotel’s where workers were suffering from retaliation for going on strike and we ended at city hall where we listed our demands. Since that eventful day we have advocated for the tenant and worker demands and we are close to winning on enhancing the Tenant Anti Harassment Ordinance, improving the Los Angeles Rent Stabilization Ordinance to get lower rents, and we are fighting to increase the minimum wage for all workers in the tourism industry. We are also setting the ground to win on new housing models like social housing.
