Rally Against Cornell's Artificial Turf Plan

Date: September 3rd
Time: 5 p.m.
Location: In front of Ithaca City Hall

Cornell's "Long Range Vision" plan proposes adding six or so new synthetic turf fields to the existing four on campus, totaling ten toxic plastic fields. This plan threatens our environment and community health with microplastic pollution, PFAS and other chemical and heavy metal contamination, harm to wildlife, and impacts on environmental justice communities beyond Ithaca. To learn more, watch our webinar recording below.

Our Immediate Objective: Urge the planning board to issue a positive declaration for the environmental impact assessment at their meeting on September 3rd.

Our Long-Term Objective: Advocate for a city-wide ban on synthetic turf installation, following the example of Los Angeles and other municipalities that have taken strong stands against harmful synturf fields.

Special Speakers Include:

Join us at 5 PM for the rally, just before the city planning board's crucial meeting at 6 PM inside City Hall. Let’s make our voices heard and push for a greener, healthier future.

The rally is co-sponsored by ten organizations: Zero Waste Ithaca, Beyond Plastics, Plastic Pollution Coalition, Mothers Out Front New York, CLEAN (Cayuga Lake Environmental Action Now!), Sustainable Finger Lakes, Seneca Lake Guardians, Sunrise Ithaca, Extinction Rebellion Ithaca, and Cornell on Fire.

Bring signs, bring friends, and bring your commitment to a greener future!
