Debt for Climate is collaborating with LEGAIA, Planet Over Profit, and NYCC to organize an action at BlackRock headquarters on September 26th at 1pm during New York Climate Week. We are demanding debt cancellation and defunding of fossil fuels. Meet us at Bella Abzug park at 1pm on September 26th and join us to march to BlackRock Headquarters and demand justice for the Global South.

BlackRock has been economically exploiting Global South countries for decades through debt traps. They buy up debt bonds of countries that are economically struggling and then they hike up the interest rates on the debt so the countries get stuck in an endless cycle of debt. From this position countries are forced to extract fossil fuels that destroy the environment in an attempt to pay off some of the debt. BlackRock has massive investments in many of the major fossil fuel companies, so it is in their interest to use debt traps to force expansion of the fossil industry in the Global South.

What we need to break out of this colonialist cycle is debt cancellation for the Global South! This is a crucial step towards economic independence for the Global South and global climate justice. And we need everyone who can make it to come out and support the call for debt cancellation.
