Rally & Paddle for our Future: Stop Fossil Fuel Projects!

Start: Saturday, September 26, 202011:00 AM

Paddle and march for a halt to the SRL pipeline and all fossil fuel projects!

As the climate crisis continues, the so called Southern Reliability Link (SRL) pipeline is tearing through the irreplaceable NJ Pinelands.  This dangerous and unnecessary fracked gas pipeline has already destroyed one home, devastated critical wetlands and waterways, and disrupted daily life during the pandemic for residents all along its route.  Some of the pipeline permits have been suspended since horizontal drilling cracked the foundation of a family’s home on June 19.  But the whole disastrous pipeline must be stopped for good before it wreaks further havoc on our communities and climate.

Join the Empower NJ coalition and allies on September 26 for a socially-distant rally and "kayaction" at Marine Park in Red Bank. By land and by river, we will call on Governor Murphy to halt the SRL  we will rally by land and by kayak at Marine Park in Red Bank– right across the Navesink River from Governor Murphy’s home – to call on the Governor to halt the SRL pipeline and enact a climate emergency moratorium on all fossil fuel projects!

Masks and social distancing are mandatory at this event.

There are three ways to participate in this action:

1) Rally! Join us for a rally on land at Marine Park from 11:00-noon. We'll hear from speakers on the frontlines of fossil fuel devastation in NJ and cheer on the kayakers from shore.
2) Kayak! Take part in the "kayaction" on the Navesink River. Please indicate on the RSVP form if you want to take part in the kayaction, as there is a limit to the number of people we can safely accommodate. Kayakers should arrive at 10:30 sharp to prepare to embark!

  • The Navesink is a navigable river with some boat traffic expected, but is sometimes windy. We will be paddling a 1.5 mile route and can expect that at least half of the trip will involve paddling against the wind/current. Please assess your own ability to participate safely in this event. For safety reasons, we will not hold the kayaction if wind speeds exceed 15 MPH on the action day.

  • If you do not have your own kayak, we may have some available to borrow. If you're bringing your own boat, it must be a sturdy kayak, preferably one that is rated for moving water. Please no canoes or inflatable boats.

3) Take action from home! If you can't attend in person, we invite to join us virtually as we livestream this action. We will also have an action that you can take from home to call on Governor Murphy to enact an emergency moratorium on fossil fuels. Be sure to RSVP to take action from home so we can keep you in the loop.
