NextEra wants to take over Dominion Energy. It would be the largest electric utility merger in American history, and it would hand NextEra control over the queue that decides which data centers get connected to our grid, and how fast. Massive data centers are already using more electricity than entire towns, and power companies are jacking up our rates to keep them running. Families are footing the bill for someone else’s server farm, and this merger means more of the same.
