A massive highway widening is proposed in Jersey City. We need everyone on board to fight this!

Rally with us on Tuesday, July 9th in Jersey City (Greenville Neighborhood) to call for a halt to the NJ Turnpike Authority’s plan to spend $11 billion dollars to add more lanes the Turnpike Extension running from Newark, through Bayonne, and Jersey City.

What: Rally opposing Hudson County Turnpike Expansion outside of the Turnpike Authority’s “Listening Session” presentation about the project.

The Turnpike Authority claims that this 10.7 billion dollar project will alleviate traffic, but years of studies show that highway widening projects don’t alleviate traffic congestion but actually incentivize more cars on the road, which will either bottle neck at the Holland Tunnel or lead to more cut through traffic in Jersey City neighborhoods making neighborhood streets more congested and less safe for pedestrians, children, and cyclists. Additionally, more car and truck traffic will result in more climate heating and harmful air pollution from idling tailpipe emissions that will worsen already bad air quality and exacerbating rates of asthma and other respiratory conditions.

We need to show up in force in Jersey City to the NJ Turnpike Authority's final community engagement to show Governor Murphy and the Turnpike Authority that this is the wrong project for Hudson County – and the wrong way to spend our transportation dollars.
