Recently enacted federal cuts will devastate New York's healthcare system and exacerbate the state's affordability crisis. But the state has the power and the wealth to respond. Not only can it fill the $750 million deficit in the current budget, it can fill the $3 billion deficit in next year's budget, and the recurring deficit that will grow to about $10 billion per year once the federal changes are fully implemented. And that's not all. Now is the time for New York to proactively develop and set in a motion a long-term plan to expand public goods, cut for-profit middlemen, and provide a solid foundation for New Yorkers!
