Following numerous reports that UI Health is moving to preemptively comply with Trump’s illegal and unenforceable ban on gender affirming care for individuals younger than 19, Chicago DSA is organizing to demand that key decision makers revert this dangerous and deadly course of action and commit to providing necessary gender affirming care for all their patients.

As the leading healthcare provider for underprivileged Chicagoans, UI Health in particular has a responsibility to the most vulnerable members of our community, a responsibility they clearly are unwilling to uphold.

Trump’s Executive Order is completely unenforceable with no legal power and no mechanisms to ensure compliance. Its legality will be highly scrutinized in the coming weeks, making it unlikely that any compulsory policy changes or legislative decisions will be reached in the near future.

By preemptively and unnecessarily complying with Trump’s illegal EO, UI Health is doing his job for him, endangering the lives of trans Chicagoans, generating fear and misinformation regarding Trans healthcare, and setting a devastating precedent for transgender rights and bodily autonomy.
