Before Lt. Gov. Hashmi’s Energy Costs Town Hall
Join us at 5:30 PM outside the Harrison Museum of African American Cultures as we tell the State Corporation Commission and Virginia’s elected officials: Oppose NextEra’s $67 billion takeover of Dominion Energy.
Hear directly from Virginians affected by rising energy costs and learn what this takeover could mean for your power bill and communities across Virginia.
NextEra already owns more than one-third of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Now the Florida energy giant wants to buy Dominion Energy. Its own CEO has called this “America’s golden age of power demand,” driven by data centers, and the company plans to build the gas pipelines and power plants to feed that growth.
If the deal goes through, the company making major decisions about how much data center growth Virginia absorbs, and who pays for it, will be headquartered in Florida, not Richmond. Virginia families could be left covering the infrastructure costs while a bigger, more distant monopoly cashes in on the data center boom.
After the rally, we’ll head inside for Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi’s Energy Costs Listening Tour at 6:30 PM, a conversation with local elected officials and energy experts about utility bills, grid reliability, and Virginia’s energy future.

More data centers. More gas plants. More transmission lines. Virginia’s power handed over to Florida.
