Rana Foroohar: 'Makers and Takers: The Rise of Finance and the Fall of American Business'

Start: Friday, September 30, 201612:30 PM

With an introduction by Thea Lee, Deputy Chief of Staff, AFL-CIO

In her new book, Makers and Takers, award-winning business journalist Rana Foroohar examines the rise of finance and the fall of business. Through colorful stories of both "Takers"—the financiers destroying jobs, increasing economic inequality and stifling job creation—and also of "Makers"—the companies and communities where finance is put back into the service of the real economy—she shows us what the dominance of Wall Street means for America's businesses and the American Dream. After showing us the mechanisms, manipulations and trends leading to the prioritization of money over value, Foroohar will help us understand some strategies to take back control of our economy and make the financial sector once again work for the people it is supposed to serve.
