Join Capital District DSA in celebrating Juneteenth and the 250th anniversary of the United States by reading Gerald Horne's The Counter-Revolution of 1776: Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States of America. This text examines the links between the American Revolution and the desire among American colonists to preserve slavery, challenging the traditional heroic creation myth of the United States.
This is Week 3 of 3 of this reading group. Readings for this discussion are:
Chapter 8. From Havana to Newport, Slavery Transformed: Settlers Rebel against London 184-208
Chapter 9. Abolition in London: Somerset’s Case and the North American Aftermath 209-232
Chapter 10. The Counter-Revolution of 1776 234-252
