Join Capital District DSA in celebrating Juneteenth and the 250th anniversary of the United States by reading Gerald Horne's The Counter-Revolution of 1776: Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States of America. This text examines the links between the American Revolution and the desire among American colonists to preserve slavery, challenging the traditional heroic creation myth of the United States.

This is Week 1 of 3 of this reading group. Readings for this discussion are:

Preface vii-xiv
Introduction 1-22
Chapter 1. Rebellious Africans: How Caribbean Slavery Came to the Mainland 23-42
Chapter 3. Revolt! Africans Conspire with the French and Spanish 63-88
