RECNing with Whiteness: How to Show Up for Racial Justice
Start: Sunday, October 10, 2021• 1:00 PM
End: Sunday, October 10, 2021• 5:30 PM
The Fishers Racial Equity Community Network (RECN) is partnering with Showing Up for Racial Justice - Indianapolis (Indy SURJ) to offer a workshop for White folks who are engaged or aspiring to be engaged in anti-racist work on Sunday, October 10th from 1-5:30pm at St. Peter's UCC in Carmel. Advance registration is required as space is limited; this will be an in-person event.
Please note that if you attended the RECN workshops in March of 2021, this 4-hour workshop will cover the same content.
Building racially equitable communities demands that people of all races work together to challenge the status quo. In order to do this, White people must learn to work alongside BIPOC.
This affinity space will equip White people who know the basics about equity initiatives with the tools to:
Critically examine our own Whiteness and its impact on the existing work by BIPOC
Take action with BIPOC to eliminate racism
Create a community where all can be their authentic selves
You will be asked to complete some homework prior to attending. More details will be provided upon registration.
The workshop consists of speaking, slides, and video. There will also be facilitated breakout groups with other participants, and two 15-minute breaks. Live captioning will be provided, and an ASL interpreter can be provided upon request. If you have accessibility needs or questions, please let us know in the registration form.
