This Friday, November 7, AAUP-Rice will participate in the National Day of Action headed by AAUP-AFT. We will have a table to spread word about AAUP and how we are trying to connect faculty, staff, and graduate students with other members of the student body and the alumni. Please join us between 12 and 2pm and bring all friends and colleagues to our table between Brochstein and Fondren Library.

In light of the unconscionable federal government's cut to SNAP benefits, we are focusing the event on mutual aid and raising awareness about food insecurity among members of our Rice community and in greater Houston. Katherine Byers, the Government Relations Officer for the Houston Food Bank, and Zhenzhen Zhao, with Rice's Student Success Initiatives, will speak at 12:30.

We are connecting with other student groups on campus and hope to mobilize the alumni community (as it is Alumni Weekend and people will be circulating), both for donations for the Houston Food Bank as well as our broader call to action to support academic freedom on Rice campus and the rights of every member of our extended community to be protected.
