Join us for a dynamic workshop that introduces the Rights of Nature (RoN) as a transformative framework for conservation, rooted in Indigenous land ethics and community-based legal innovation. Designed for North Carolina land trusts, conservancies, community land partners, and local government allies, this workshop invites participants to engage in presentations, interactive scenarios, and group dialogue. Together, we’ll explore how RoN challenges dominant conservation models, centers land as a living relative, and creates space for collaborative governance grounded in justice and reciprocity.

During this session we will:

  • Understand Rights of Nature as a legal, ethical, and cultural framework.

  • Explore how RoN expands Western conservation practice through Indigenous worldviews.

  • Learn from real-world examples—international, national, and in North Carolina.

  • Gain tools for applying RoN in easement drafting, land stewardship, and advocacy.

  • Identify pathways for NC land trusts and partners to co-steward land through RoN
