The date is finally here: Tesla is debuting its fully self driving Robotaxi on Thursday, June 12.

Our fearless riders will be fully briefed on the dangers of Tesla self driving vehicles. Tests have shown that a fully self driving Robotaxi will barrel past a stopped school bus and run over a child… but how often does that really happen?

Elon Musk wants us to believe that the Robotaxi is ready for rapid rollout. He has promised that over a million self driving Robotaxis will be out by the end of 2026, but Tesla is far behind these inflated goals. Tesla just started testing the Robotaxi service without safety drivers a week ago, which is extraordinarily concerning – a self driving service like the Robotaxi should be extensively tested over many many months and miles. Between the permitting processes required to operate autonomous vehicles in states and municipalities, the charging logistics required for a large fleet, and the complex adaptations required for changing route conditions like construction, traffic, and accidents, the Robotaxi project is not looking so ready.
