On Sunday, December 29 @ 3:00, join us for Socialist Sunday School #69: Direct Action & Sabotage. We'll be reading the Introduction of Direct Action & Sabotage: Three Classic IWW Pamphlets from the 1910s.

NOTE: Remote only. A Zoom link will be available on the following page and in your email.

Here is a link to the reading: Direct Action & Sabotage. (Introduction only)

Direct Action & Sabotage presents 3 pamphlets from organizers with the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). These frame direct action in a context of nonviolence; and as a historic practice of workers claiming a right to control over their trade. These tactics were repopularized in the 1910s as new industrial methods of efficiency were imposed under "scientific management," and state repression was used to defeat strikes. Newspaper sensationalism pushed a false image of wanton destruction, which these pamphlets push back against. Despite the repression of the IWW during the First Red Scare, the legacy of direct action continued in later union activity.

A facilitator will provide a summary of the reading. This is a great opportunity to meet your comrades and discuss important ideas, whether you're new to these conversations, or been involved in organizing for a long time.

Every effort will be made to create a safe, accessible, and comradely space for learning and discussion.
