The Trump administration is kidnapping, imprisoning, and deporting pro-Palestinian organizers — and claiming to do so in the name of Jewish safety. They seek to pit communities against each other and scapegoat immigrants to justify their violent mass deportation agenda. This includes a multi-billion dollar expansion of detention infrastructure, demanding immigrants register with the government, and ripping hundreds of thousands of people’s immigration status out from under them.

In Hashkiveinu, we chant וּפְרֹשׂ עָלֵינוּ סֻכַּת שְׁלוֹמֶךָ – ufros aleinu sukkat shlomekha – spread over us the shelter of your peace. What does this prayer for peace & safety mean in a time of rising fascism & political repression? What responsibility lies on our shoulders as Jews?

This administration is trying to divide and separate us from our own communities & our neighbors. As Jews, we say: no more!

When we all resist and look out for our neighbors, we can fight the fear on which fascism thrives and expand sanctuary to the streets of all of our communities.
