Stop Blowing Smoke

For too long, NYC’s energy has come at the expense of the health of our communities and our planet. Peaker plants have spewed toxic fossil fuels into our air, burning the planet, and sending asthma rates sky-high in communities like the South Bronx, Williamsburg, Sunset Park, Astoria, LIC & more.
Last year, we won a commitment to shut down all the state’s peaker plants by 2030. We also won new power to guarantee we build a sustainable future: by having the public sector build our renewable energy.
But the Governor is holding us back: instead of building the public renewables we need to shut these smokestacks down, she’s fighting to stall progress. Expert after expert has warned that we’re not on track to meet our legally mandated climate goals — but rather than get serious, Governor Hochul is ready to throw in the towel. We’re out of breath and out of time. We have to fight back.
On September 15th, we're rallying in New York City to demand that Hochul and NYPA commit to building 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. That’s how we can
Keep our energy system reliable
Phase out the fossil fuels polluting our air & planet
Create tens of thousands of high-quality union jobs
Lower our energy bills
Put power back in the hands of the people — not shareholders
When thousands of New Yorkers stood up and demanded it, we won the power to create a Green New York. Now, it’s up to us to do it again and force Hochul to commit to Stop Blowing Smoke.
Families and children of all ages are welcome!
