In a typical school board election, voter turnout is extremely low, often ranging from just 5% to 10% of eligible voters. But school boards make incredibly consequential decisions regarding LGBTQ-affirming policies, funding for special needs, and diversity-inclusive policies, which can shape the experiences of students, staff, parents, and community throughout a district. According to a survey conducted by the Trevor Project, 43% of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 reported attending a school with at least one anti-LGBTQ+ policy in place. So school boards matter, and that's especially the case in South Washington County.

Join Prism, OutFront Minnesota, and the School Board Integrity Project for an information session on why school boards matter, and what's at stake in the election of four members to the South Washington County School Board in November. RSVP here to receive event details and a reminder via email. Please be in touch if you have accessibility questions or needs. See you soon!
