Join us for the first-ever SDEEC State Capitol Day — a coalition trip to the State Capitol in Pierre, anchored by the State of the Tribes Address. Together we’ll tour the Capitol, share a meal, and stand in solidarity during this empowering gathering.

Who Should Attend
We’re calling for representation from across our coalition and all nine tribes:
  • Tribal Education Directors (TEDs)
  • Tribal Education Committees
  • Tribal Chairs/Presidents
  • Coalition members and partners
  • School groups, student councils, and youth (grades 6–12)

Youth Track

  • Pre-Hill Day: Classroom-based training (pending coordination)
  • Hill Day – Jan 14
  • Morning: Capitol tours & scavenger hunt
  • Midday: Lunch gathering (with adults)
  • Afternoon: State of the Tribes Address
  • Departure: Students return with schools
  • Post-Hill Day: Classroom debrief + explore forming an inter-school, inter-tribal Youth Legislative Council

Adult Track

  • Pre-Hill Day: Zoom session on logistics, civic presence, and etiquette
  • Hill Day – Jan 14
  • Midday: Lunch gathering (with youth)
  • Afternoon: State of the Tribes Address
  • Evening: Mixer at Richie Z’s Brickhouse BBQ & Grill with elected officials, Tribal leaders, and coalition partners
  • Post-Hill Day: Zoom training on public testimony for the 2026 legislative session

  • Final agenda depends on number of schools, students, and adult participants.
  • Youth group size will shape tours and activities
