Dolphins and whales are exploited in captivity in a number of places all over the world. Consumer demand for captive dolphin shows, swim with captive dolphins programs and other captive encounters is the driving force behind the global captivity industry. Demand not only fuels the perpetuation of captive displays and captive breeding, but it also fuels brutal wild captures that still happen in some parts of the world.
Dolphins Belong In the Wild, Not a Tank
A pod of wild dolphins can travel up to 100 kilometers a day in the open ocean. Family members teach each other skills to survive in the wild and frequently remain together for life. Dolphins are known to have signature whistles much like how humans have names, and social communication and interaction among the pod is a key component of their daily lives. These mammals have perfectly evolved to thrive in the ocean, where they deserve to live freely. Captivity simply cannot provide an adequate environment for these wild species.
By organizing an educational and outreach event in our city, we unite to show the world that this industry must end. Marine mammal captivity is outdated and it is time for these companies to embrace true ecotourism and empty the tanks.
Please note that this is a positive event to help marine mammals. This is a family friendly event. We do not condone aggressive behavior or hateful, derogatory, or racist language of any kind.
