The course is an introduction to seed saving, including the biology of plant reproduction, self-pollination versus cross-pollination, in-breeding and out-breeding, annuals and biennials. The course will take place on Madeline McKeever's Organic farm in West Cork, the home to Brown Envelope Seeds. There will be a practical demonstration of how to extract seeds from wet fruit and from dry seed pods and how to winnow using a fan. The course will also teach you how to store seeds and germination test them.
New and experienced growers welcome. Suitable rain gear and footwear will be required.
COVID-19
This event will be in strict adherence with government guidelines. The event will take place in an outdoor space and will have no more than 15 people in attendance. All attendees will be asked to maintain social distancing of 2 meters and to use hand sanitizer upon arrival. Hand sanitizer will be readily available for the duration of the workshop. Attendees will be asked to complete a contact tracing form on arrival. We ask that you do not attend if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, if you have traveled overseas in the 14 days prior this event or if you have been in close contact with someone who has contracted COVID-19.
