Self Care and Revolutionary Action - A Conversation with Ericka Huggins

Start: Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 9:30 PM UTC

This is a virtual event

As we resist white supremacy domestically and internationally in pursuit of revolutionary change, it is essential to also develop strategies of self-preservation. We welcome all to join us for a conversation on the importance of self-care and self-love in activism with former member of the Black Panther Party, human rights advocate, and renowned educator, Ericka Huggins.

For over three decades, Ericka Huggins has been advocating for human rights. She was a leader of the LA chapter of the Black Panther Party, the Director of the Oakland Community School, and the first woman and first Black person to be appointed to the Alameda County Board of Education. For over 20 years, she has taught yoga and meditation to incarcerated people, which she herself utilized to survive solitary confinement and separation from her child while taken as a political prisoner. Further, as a proponent of the Shanti Project, which supports people living with HIV/AIDS, Huggins has developed projects for children, women of color, and the LGBTQ+ community.

We're so excited to welcome her and hope you will join us in conversation.
