Friends of the Lost Coast is proud to host a beach cleanup in Shelter Cove in concert with CA Coastal Cleanup Day, the largest annual volunteer event in California! This is CCCD’s 40th anniversary, and it all started with a concerned Humboldt County resident who wrote a grant in 1979 to fund a “Beach Beautification Project” which led to the removal of 34000 lbs of trash from 110 miles of Humboldt Shoreline.
You can help continue this legacy and be a part of the global good as we come together Saturday September 21st 9AM-12PM. We will meet at Mal Coombs park at 9AM to sign release forms and divide up materials (including reusable gloves, trash grabbers and bags, magnet sticks for nails/screws, and buckets for clean recyclables) before we divide and conquer to remove trash and harmful microplastics from the boat ramp beach, near the Coral Point access, Black Sands Beach, Mal Coombs Park and the surrounding streets. All trash and recyclables data will be recorded and shared with Northcoast Environmental Center to help inform policy change and future legislation.
A number of $10/hr youth stipends are available for little helpers ages 12-17 with pre-registration. We ask that for their safety, minors are accompanied by an adult during the cleanup. We can’t wait to see you and celebrate 40 years of protecting vulnerable habitat and the critters that call in home on September 21st! To RSVP or register a youth, email taylor@lostcoast.org.
