Come hear from your neighbors about a serious new threat to the trans people and healthcare system of Humboldt County!

On July 22nd Open Door Community Health Centers capitulated to the federal government by ceasing gender affirming health care services for transgender people under 19 years old. This makes Open Door one of the first healthcare centers in the State to cut off life saving, evidence based care for vulnerable children and young adults. This blatantly discriminatory policy harms vulnerable youth.

Open Door is one of the largest providers of primary care in the county, and the loss of their network of clinics and pharmacies means kids and families may now have to drive hours, navigate confusing telehealth services, and pay out of pocket for care they could previously receive through local doctors they already know and trust.

This is unacceptable, and entirely optional. This care is still completely legal in the state of California.
