What is Marxism (And Why Should I Care)? A discussion w/Ramsin Canon of Chicago DSA
The work of Karl Marx and other Marxist thinkers have been a guiding influence for socialist movements around the world for over 150 years. In the years since Capital's release, however, anti-capitalist movements have risen and fallen, and capitalism has grown and changed dramatically.
Why, then, is Marx still relevant for socialists? Can it inform our organizing in a tangible way? And what does it mean to call yourself a Marxist?
Join us for a special Seattle DSA Socialist Night School as we speak with Ramsin Canon, three-term political education coordinator for Chicago DSA. We'll discuss his Midwest Socialist essay "What It Means to Be a Marxist," what the hell "Marxism" is, why it's not just a historical curiosity for the hyper-educated...and much more.
Recommended readings:
- Ramsin Canon, "What It Means to Be a Marxist"
- Ellen Meiskins Wood, "Back to Marx"
