"Workers of the world, unite!"

These are the words that end Marx & Engels' The Communist Manifesto. In our first session of Socialist Summer School, we defined capitalism as a system in which workers create value that is then turned by owners of the means of production into profit; in our second session, we discussed socialism as an alternative in which workers harness this surplus value and distribute it according to human needs rather than accumulation by a few. In this session, we ask the questions: Why is the working class central to the socialist struggle, who is it, and where is it?

All are welcome, regardless of affiliation, experience level, and attendance at previous sessions.
