You are warmly invited to be part of a historic event that will shine far beyond Harrisonburg, Virginia.

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, Habitat for Humanity Virginia and GiveSolar will host the National Launch of a bold campaign to install 10,000 solar energy systems on Habitat for Humanity homes across the country in the next five years.

We will mark this occasion with a “solar barnraising” at Central Valley Habitat for Humanity's Suter Street development in Harrisonburg, Virginia, starting at 11:00 AM. Three new Habitat townhouses will receive rooftop solar—lifted into place by Habitat homeowners, volunteers, and special guests like you. Your presence will help to amplify this ambitious effort to deliver clean, affordable energy to hardworking families nationwide.

Attire: Jeans and work clothes (Habitat T-shirts provided)

This campaign, backed by 23 Habitat State Support Organizations, grew from a pilot project launched right here in Harrisonburg in 2020. Now it’s expanding across the country through GiveSolar’s $40 million national fundraising drive—bringing lasting savings to families and helping protect them from rising energy costs.

We are also pleased to align this launch with Sun Day, a nationwide celebration of solar energy happening September 20–21. Following the solar barnraising, we’ll host an on-site reception and press conference to share our vision and invite the nation to join us.

Why this matters:

  • Habitat for Humanity builds stronger, more vibrant communities by ensuring everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home.

  • Adding solar makes these homes even more affordable by lowering energy bills for decades.

  • This campaign will deliver the benefits of residential solar to low-income homeowners at a scale never before achieved.

We know your time is valuable—but we believe your presence will help inspire others, amplify our message, and demonstrate what’s possible when we combine innovation, collaboration, and compassion

We are part of SunDay, global days of action on September 20th and 21st, 2025, celebrating the unstoppable rise of clean energy. We’ll come together to showcase the power of the sun and wind, the energy sources that can power our world without pollution.
