Solidarity Rally with the Tenants Movement in Spain

Start: Sunday, November 08, 2026•12:00 PM

Location: The Spanish Consulate• 150 East 58th St, New York, NY 10155 US

Maricarmen Abascal was 87 years old when she was evicted from her home of 71 years in Madrid. Her eviction sparked a mass protest movement across Spain for the right to housing, rent control and protection from eviction. It brought down the government.  Now, on November 11th, Spanish tenants and workers are mobilizing a general strike.

Maricarmen passed away before she could return to her home, but her memory and the memory of all victims of landlord violence lives on.

On Sunday, November 8, tenants around the world are taking action in solidarity with the Spanish General Strike and with everyone everywhere fighting to keep a roof over their heads and live with dignity.

Join us outside the Spanish Consulate to honor Maricarmen and all victims of landlord violence. From Madrid to New York City, Tenant Power knows no borders!
