Speak Out for Energy & Climate Justice!
At Public Service Commission (PSC) Town Hall
Thursday, March 24th, 2022, at 9:00 AM - Until All Everyone Has Spoken
Georgia PSC: 244 Washington St SW Atlanta, GA 30334
In PSC Hearing Room: One Floor Up from Street Level
Bring Picture ID to Enter Building and Masks Strongly Recommended While Inside.
Gather With Us Outside Before Hearing - Look for Yellow Beyond Coal Banner:
We are advocates for affordable clean energy in Georgia promoting the protection of our air and water, reliable and affordable access to energy, and sustainable solutions for the future. Our values of equity, empowerment, and true climate justice envision a Georgia that distributes the benefits of clean energy to all and centers those most impacted by the current energy system in our society’s transition to renewable sources.
Right now, we are at the beginning of the 2022 IRP (Integrated Resource Plan) process, which will determine how Georgia Power produces and sells electricity for the next 20 years, deciding whether that electricity comes from clean, renewable sources such as solar or from dirty fossil fuels like coal and gas. And unlike previous years, the public is potentially being shut out of the process by our elected commissioners in the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC). We need your help! We must tell the Public Service Commissioners that in-person and virtual public comment must be allowed for the 2022 IRP.
Meet us on March 24th at 9 AM in Atlanta for a town hall hosted by the Public Service Commission about consumer concerns. Look for us outside the PSC offices with a yellow Beyond Coal banner! This town hall will be in person in the PSC Hearing Room one floor up from street level at 244 Washington St SW Atlanta, GA 30334, across the street from Atlanta City Hall. Don’t forget to bring your picture ID, it is required to enter the building. Face masks are encouraged as are other public health and COVID-19 guidelines.
This may be our only opportunity to demand verbal public comment during the IRP and advocate for the issues that impact Georgians the most:
-
No dirty swap-a-roo! Closing coal plants is great, but replacing them with expensive and methane-producing gas is bad. Instead, we need to speed up the transition from coal to cheap solar including net metering and battery storage
-
Increased investments for the people through bill savings programs and energy efficiency
-
Decreased burden on the people: we should NOT have to pay for Georgia Power’s bad decisions, incompetence, and mismanagement of things like toxic coal ash clean up
Speak from the heart! Comments are best when they come from your own experience. The ideas above can give you a sense of how excluding the public from the decision making processes of the Public Service Commission impacts you, but provide comments as an individual.
