Now is your chance to speak out on PFAS in North Carolina's water!
Known as "forever chemicals," PFAS are highly persistent, synthetic chemicals that do not break down easily in the environment or the human body, causing significant environmental and public health risks. More than 3.5 million North Carolinians drink water contaminated with unsafe levels of PFAS.
The NC Environmental Management Commission is writing the rules that will govern how these toxic chemicals are regulated and monitored across North Carolina. However, the rules up for comment are WEAK, as they do not require polluters to reduce their toxic discharge, and do not impose consequences even if polluters increase their toxic dischargers.
In Western North Carolina, our water supply is nothing to play with. PFAS polluters shouldn't write the rules of the game.
Attend the public hearing and make a comment (talking points here!), urging NC regulators to reject these weak rules and instead, impose strong and enforceable limits on forever chemicals. Sign-in and speaker registration will begin at 5pm, public hearing will begin at 6pm.
