Speak Up for Renter Protections!
The Rockville Mayor and Council are working to rewrite the city's Landlord Tenant code. Some of the proposed changes would severely weaken renter protections in the city. The update does not include the number one piece of feedback from the city's tenant listening session: passing rent stabilization. It also suggests eliminating the requirement for landlords to report rent increases to the city. This makes it much harder for renters to hold landlords accountable for large increases. The proposal also doesn't include a ban on junk fees or reasonable limits for fees on trash and parking.
Rockville renters need stronger protections, not weaker ones. We have an opportunity to advocate for better changes at the Community Forum towards the beginning of the meeting. Join us, speak if you are comfortable, or be a supportive person in the chamber.
We've put together a testimony guide to help people testify to the Mayor and Council: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iZg6t4SCYvrdT_HIyHO3-14D1M2T3-UWe2k7FhhDdxg/edit?usp=sharing
