The latest report from Metro DC DSA’s Stomp Out Slumlords campaign is an in-depth look at tenant organizing during the pandemic. Before the pandemic, SOS had organized a single independent rent strike. Since March, they have helped more than 13 DC apartment buildings go on rent strike to win rent cancellation and other concessions from their landlords. The report walks through how SOS was able to expand their capacity and build a working class base. It also reflects on the challenges of working in coalition with nonprofits and organizing remotely.
