Stopping Surveillance Webinar

Start: Thursday, April 20, 2017 7:00 PM

End: Thursday, April 20, 2017 8:30 PM

Join Technology & Civil Liberties Organizer and Leadership Development Manager for the ACLU of Northern California, Tessa D’Arcangelew, to learn about efforts to stop surveillance in its tracks here in California. For years, local entities (particularly local law enforcement) have utilized federal grant processes and loans from private companies to acquire increasingly invasive and sweeping surveillance technologies. And they have used them to target local activists or situated them in communities of color and immigrant communities to disproportionately sweep those individuals into the criminal justice system. Local efforts are moving forward across the state to disrupt this process.

Join us on Thursday, April 20th from 7pm PST to 8:30pm PST to learn how you can join or start a local effort to pass an ordinance in your city that would create robust reforms for the acquisition of surveillance technology. You will also learn what you can do about SB 21, a CA bill that would undermine current local efforts by putting a weak and ineffective law at the state level, setting the bar too low for meaningful reform.
