Third Act-RVA is partnering with the Richmond Peace Education Center (RPEC) and the University of Richmond (UR) to celebrate SunDay on September 21st from noon - 5pm. The event is called SunDay: A Day for Peace and the Planet.
The TA-RVA and UR exhibits will be located in a parking lot in Carytown (intersection of Auburn and Cary Sts) and include: (a) Tabling with other organizations to highlight the advantages of solar energy and other green energy sources, as well as the destructive consequences of fossil fuels.(b) Showcasing our school solar project with Richmond Public Schools and recruiting investors. (c) Sharing info about our current initiatives with the community, such as the effort to block Dominion Energy's planned new gas plant in Chesterfield Co. (d) Showcasing EVs and provide timely information about what tax incentives are still available for EVs and home and school solar projects, and when these incentives expire. (e) Showcasing clean energy installation skills by climate activist Richard Walker and recruiting participants to train to become skilled solar installation technicians. In addition, there will be activities for the children, a solar powered food truck offering waffles, and other vendors related to the celebration of solar and electric power.
Activities planned with RPEC will begin in nearby Fountain Lake in Byrd Park, followed by a march through Carytown. RPEC activities include chorals, a drum brigade, and puppetry. The marchers will visit the TA-RVA / UR vendors and exhibits mentioned above and engage the large group in song. Their activities will culminate at AlterNatives in Carytown, where they will lead a teach-in related to fossil fuels and the war economy.
Both parts of Peace Day / SunDay are family friendly and folks of all ages are welcome and encouraged to join us for food, fun, and education!
