SunDay is a global day of action on September 21st, 2025, celebrating the unstoppable rise of clean energy.

The Westbrooks will be conducting tours of their award-winning passive/active solar home in Fairview, TX. Guided tours will run every 30 minutes and last about 50 minutes.

The house won the 1996 NAHB Energy Value Housing Award for Innovative Design. Some of the features are: passive solar design; active solar water heating; structural insulated panel construction; double-pane, low-e windows; geothermal heat pump; extensive natural lighting; hail-resistant metal roof; desiccant wheel air-to-air heat exchanger; partially earth-bermed garage; LED lighting; native landscaping; 3200-gallon rainwater collection tanks (for all outdoor use).

The solar electric photovoltaic (PV) array was added in 2012 and expanded to 3.7kW in 2014. The PV array has generated more than a 7% annual return on the investment. Additional efficiency measures continue to lower the energy need as well. A 10.5kWh battery was added in 2022. The home has not had an energy charge in over 5 years (only a monthly base fee).
