Transit providers in the Bay Area have been hit hard by the pandemic and current funding levels are not sufficient, so the Voices for Public Transportation Coalition has been working tirelessly to pass a funding measure that would transform the Bay Area transportation system into one that is more stable, equitable, and user-friendly. SB 1031 (Wahab, Wiener) the authorizing legislation for this measure is going through the legislature this year with a focus on sustaining and improving transit service, advancing transit transformation through customer and service improvements, and with a minimum set-aside of $750 million a year. Now is the time to act, on April 12th The Metropolitan Transportation Commission will be having a legislative committee meeting on SB 1031, show your support by making a comment at this meeting.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Legislative Committee will discuss SB 1031 on Friday, April 12th. This MTC sponsored bill in its current form is great but we need it to go further. We must limit the expansion of highways, set aside a minimum of $750 million or 70 percent of revenues, and ensure that it is funded through progressive revenue mechanisms.
