Family Zoning is once again back at Land Use on November 3! Last time they heard amendments, and for those of you who didn't stay for the blow-by-blow of what happened, they are hearing the amendments on this Monday. We are almost there but it's not quite finished yet, so we need your help once again.
Here's the current plan: it includes amendments from Chair Melgar, as well as Supervisors Sherrill and Sauter, which have been vetted and will not cause any problems with state regulators. Those include the amendments removing 3-unit+ rent-controlled properties (which were already excluded from development probability) and incentives to increase bedrooms in units and protect small businesses. The Mayor himself has signalled support for these amendments, so they look good. This is the version we are here to support!
However, there are also some bad amendments that were advanced. For example, Supervisor Chan wants to ban all residential uses (e.g., any occupied home right now) from the rezoning. While it seems unlikely they have the votes, we can't take the chance. We need you one more time! Let's make sure the bad amendments are soundly defeated! We'll provide more specific talking points as we get closer and we see what
As we get closer, we'll provide talking points. In the meantime, one of the simplest ways you can support this plan is to send an email to your Supervisor asking them to support it.
Land Use & Transportation starts at 1:30 pm, and it's likely the only items on the calendar will relate to this. As opposed to last time, there should be less preamble so I anticipate public comment will start sooner than it did previously. We will provide updates on the likely start time. RSVP to stay up to date!
