Join Alliance for a Green Economy (AGREE) for a press conference and advocacy meeting as part of the Statewide Day of Action for the Renewable Heat Now campaign!
Together, activists across New York State will amplify New York's demands of Governor Hochul to prioritize affordable, clean, healthy, and climate-friendly buildings in her January 2025 State of the State address and state budget.
We'll be advocating for the NY HEAT Act, which would slash NY's #1 source of climate-warming pollution by transitioning our buildings from burning fossil fuels to renewable heating and cooling systems like heat pumps, while eliminating subsidies for new pipelines and lowering our utility bills to 6% of our income. (See our 1-pager and video about the NY HEAT Act to learn more!) We'll also advocate for the Green Affordable Pre-electrification Fund (GAP Fund), which would fund home or apartment repairs including roof leaks and foundation issues, lead, mold, and asbestos remediation, and electrical wiring upgrades to make our homes healthier and eliminate barriers to building decarbonization.
We encourage you to join the prep meeting and advocacy meeting only if you're a constituent of Assemblymember Pam Hunter's or a member of an allied organization. If you don't know who your NYS Assemblymember is, you can look them up here: https://nyassembly.gov/mem/search/
If you're not a constituent, we still encourage you to join us for the press conference following the advocacy meeting to call for climate action!
Schedule:
9am-10am - mandatory prep meeting for advocacy meeting attendees at Over the Cuse Deli and Grill at 712 E Fayette St. Breakfast and coffee is on us! (During the prep meeting we'll go over everything you need to know to prep for the advocacy meeting - no prior advocacy experience needed! We'll ask you to practice a 2-3 minute personal story for you to tell Assemblymember Hunter about why you want these bills to pass, which could include why you want action on the climate crisis, funding for healthier and safer homes, good green jobs, and/or lower utility bills.)
10am-10:30am - advocacy meeting with and petition delivery to Assemblymember Pamela Hunter at 711 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13210, Floor 2.
10:45am-11:15am - brief press conference outside Pam Hunter's office. Everyone is welcome! Help us hold signs and speak out for action on the climate and lead poisoning crises!
11:15am-12pm (optional) - optional debrief and free lunch at Strong Hearts
Please bring: your ID, a mask, water, and your desire for climate action! Please remember to dress warmly for the press conference outside. We'll also provide Renewable Heat Now t-shirts and NY HEAT signs for anyone who wants them.
