Takeover Albany with Housing Justice for All and the NY-WFP!

Start: Tuesday, March 14, 202311:00 AM

Kathy Hochul wants to pass her housing plan in the budget: a housing plan filled with giveaways to her wealthy real estate developer donors but NOTHING for tenants and homeless New Yorkers. But we KNOW that a real housing plan MUST put tenants and homeless New Yorkers first.

After all -- we're the ones really dealing with the worst of the housing crisis. Our rents are skyrocketing. Our landlords are always there when it's time to collect rent but NOWHERE when we need repairs. And too many of us have been stuck in a broken shelter system, sometimes for YEARS.

Join THOUSANDS of New Yorkers from across the state as we take over Albany to make sure that ANY HOUSING PLAN that passes in the budget includes basic tenant protections and access to housing for homeless New Yorkers.

This is our chance to pass crucial bills like Good Cause Evictions, the Housing Access Voucher Program (HAVP), and the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA). It's time that our state pass a budget that puts working families at the center.

If we don't get it, shut it down.

RSVP and we'll connect you to the bus closest to you!

Buses will leave from:
  • Buffalo
  • Syracuse
  • Rochester
  • Newburgh
  • Hempstead
  • New York City

More about our campaign:

Housing is a basic human right, but too many New Yorkers today can’t afford a roof over their head. Real estate lobbyists and big corporate landlords have rigged the system against everyday New Yorkers. Now, people across New York State are in crisis. Rents, evictions, and homelessness are at record highs. Greedy landlords are pushing out tenants, raising rents, and leaving homes in disrepair.

Rather than continuing to cater to wealthy landlords, Albany lawmakers have a chance to shift the balance of power back to tenants and fundamentally transform our housing system. By passing the “Our Homes, Our Power” package, Albany lawmakers can help all New Yorkers pay the rent, fight for safe and decent living conditions, and have access to a permanent, stable home. Not only is it good for tenants and homeless New Yorkers, it will make our neighborhoods safer, healthier, and more prosperous as a whole.

As a member of the Housing Justice for All coalition, the New York Working Families Party invites all members and supporters to join us in fighting for a housing system that centers racial, social, and economic justice in New York state.
