Tech Action Data Centers Teach-in
Start: Wednesday, April 16, 2025•07:00 PM
End: Wednesday, April 16, 2025•09:00 PM

While ChatGPT and other AI tools appear "free" to use, their true costs are being paid by our communities, our environment, and our wallets. Join NYC-DSA's Tech Action Working Group for a teach-in about the massive physical infrastructure behind AI and who's really footing the bill at the NYC-DSA office (14 Jefferson St) at 7pm. There will also be a virtual option - a Zoom link will be sent before the teach-in to those that RSVP.
Data centers—the factories of the AI age—are quietly becoming one of our biggest climate threats, consuming enormous amounts of electricity and water while receiving billions in tax subsidies. We'll explore how these facilities are hiking up your utility bills, straining our power grid, and threatening climate goals.
You'll learn about:
- The environmental footprint of AI and data centers
- How tech corporations shift costs to working people
- Data centers in our backyard and the STAMP data center fight
- The NY Sustainable Data Centers Act and how to support it
- Concrete ways to organize against Big Tech's resource grab
Whether you're concerned about rising utility bills, climate justice, or corporate power, this teach-in will connect the dots between AI infrastructure and our daily lives—and show how we can fight back.
