Join us for this season's fifth session of our Tech/AI Justice education series! We'll be holding it on Wednesday Oct 29th at the Albert and Vera List Academic Center, from 6:30 to 8:30pm
The theme of this session will be a training on Privacy and Surveillance, in partnership with the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.)
From protest surveillance to ICE raids to period tracking apps, we are seeing and living through the consequences of the lack of privacy protections in our digital world. In this session, we will cover the basics of what privacy means in the digital world, what steps we can take to protect our information, and highlight ways we can fight for legislative and regulatory changes.
Our guest speaker, Corinne Worthington is the Research and Advocacy Manager at the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.). She will walk us through a threat modeling exercise, a commonly used practice to evaluate which privacy measures are best suited for us and our communities. In addition to the brief lecture, we will hold discussions on privacy tools, best practices, how to better protect our communities, and how to raise awareness for privacy protections.

The NYC-DSA Tech Action Working Group has re-launched this political education series where we explore Tech and AI from a socialist perspective through collective study and discussion. Our goal is to bridge knowledge gaps, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and promote equitable political education on AI technologies, empowering us to make informed decisions about the future of AI and technology in society.
The series alternates between discussion-based sessions focused on theoretical foundations and more teach-in style sessions centered on applied policy issues or featuring guest speakers.
